Indications/Uses

Dosage/Direction for Use

Urex Oedema Adult Initially 20-80 mg once daily. May be increased by increments of 20-40 mg. Childn 2 mg/kg body wt/day. Max: 40 mg/day. May be increased by 1-2 mg/kg no sooner than 6-8 hr after previous dose. HTN 20-40 mg bd. Urex Forte Adjuvant treatment of oliguria & treatment of oedema Adult Initially 250 mg, may be increased in steps of 250 mg every 4-6 hr until adequate diuresis of ≥2.5 L/day is achieved. Max: 1,000 mg/day.

Administration

May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.

Contraindications

Electrolyte deficiency, anuria, hepatic coma, early pregnancy, hypokalaemia, concurrent lithium therapy.

Special Precautions

Hepatic or renal insufficiency, prostatic hypertrophy, impaired micturition, impaired hearing. Monitor fluids & electrolytes.

Adverse Reactions

Abdominal discomfort, orthostatic hypotension, GI disturbances, blurred vision, dizziness, headache.

Drug Interactions

May potentiate antihypertensive action of tubocurarine. May enhance toxicity of aminoglycosides, cephalosporins, salicylates, lithium & cardiac glycosides. Diuretic effectiveness may be reduced by probenecid. Increased orthostatic hypotension may occur w/ alcohol, narcotics, barbiturates.
